Attempted murderer sentenced to 10 years

The 29-year-old was convicted of attempted murder after severely stabbing a victim during a fight.

A 29-year-old man was recently sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court for attempted murder.

The accused was arrested in 2020 following a fight which broke out between him and the victim in the Bramley policing precinct.

According to Bramley police spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi, the convicted who was reportedly drunk, pulled out a knife and severely stabbed the victim.

“The police were later called and upon their arrival, they immediately summoned the ambulance to the crime scene. The blood-stained knife that was used to commit the crime was found and seized.”

He added that the investigating detective successfully opposed bail as the suspect was an undocumented foreign national and there was no compelling reason for the then accused to be released on bail.

He was kept in custody for the duration of the trial, sentenced and was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
