Meet Sandton SPCA’s newest qualified inspector

The Sandton SPCA newest qualified inspector, Inspector Godfrey Mnguni looks forward to engaging with the community on animal welfare.

Inspector Godfrey Mnguni looks forward to engaging with residents and looking out for the welfare of the community’s animals as he recently joined the Sandton SPCA’s inspector team.

Mnguni, who has always had a passion for animals, joins the local SPCA’s inspector team who are all qualified to enforce the Animals Protection Act.

“Growing up, I used to accompany my peers whose families owned livestock and lived by herding them on my homestead. The animal bug bit me since then,” he said.

Each incoming inspector is subject to training from the National Council of SPCAs where they earn their stripes to become inspectors.

Mnguni found an interest in working with the SPCA and getting involved with the inspector division through volunteer work.

“[There were] only two inspectors available then…[I] grew fonder of the job after I got an in-depth breakdown of an inspector’s core function.”

These functions include investigating cruelty complaints, responding to rescues, educating the public about animal welfare and carrying out inspections in all environments where there are animals, enforcing the Animals Protection Act.

As an inspector, Mnguni hopes to not only help more animals but ‘[Ensuring that the] education about the importance of animal care is instilled across my local communities’.
“I will be striving for justice for animals kept in brutal conditions. That way I will know that it will be one of many animal lives’ changed.”

Sandton SPCA general manager Meg Wilson looked forward to working with Mnguni in prioritising the welfare of animals.

“We know that inspector Mnguni is going to make waves in all the right places for the animals in our community.

“What an incredible young man, with an excellent work ethic and a never give up attitude. Our animals are in phenomenal hands,” said Wilson.
