RKC Dojo continues to level up

Chief instructor Warren Ho and assistant instructor Jayson Rothman ventured to Magglingen, Switzerland for the seminar organised by the Swiss Kendo and Iaido Association.

The Ryu Ken Chi (RKC) Dojo continues to improve the skills of its instructors, following the participation of two of its members in the Great Iaido and Jodo Seminar and Grading.

According to Ho, with close to 200 participants over a period of four days, the atmosphere at the seminar was one of both excitement and relief. “Excitement, as there is nothing quite like the sounds of 150 swords cutting through the air of a large hall, and relief because it has been two long years that such a seminar of this size was held again.

“Due to the pandemic and lockdowns, it has been over two years of dedicated online training with our international senseis to get us to a point where we could travel overseas again and finally take the examinations for our respective grades.”

Ho shares a special message of thanks to Pam Parker, sensei of the US, and Stephan Naji, sensei of France, and everyone else who has supported the team along the way.

“Our grading success is thanks to their generous time and knowledge! I dedicate these gradings to them.”

While it was Rothman’s first experience of snow while staying at the Swiss Olympic training venue, one of the most memorable highlights was meeting sensei Parker. “I met my hero and was amazed by the absolute powerhouse that this little, petite woman is,” he said.
