Sandton SPCA book sale helps animals in need

Book sales, fundraisers, corporate sponsorships, and debit order donors are all vital aspects that help to ensure the sustainability of the SPCA.

The Sandton SPCA recently hosted a successful pop-up book sale in Morningside Manor, raising much need funds for the animals in need.

The non-profit organisation hosted the pop-up on March 26 and 31 with an array of genres up for sale at just R20 each.

According to the volunteers at the book sale, the pop-up was greatly supported and the children’s book table in particular was an all-around favourite.

Sandton SPCA general manager Meg Wilson said it is through donations and fundraising such as this that the organisation is able to keep its doors open.

“We have seen a massive increase in unwanted, lost, and abused animals which we take in and care for.

“Our inspectorate department is extremely busy, and our clinic has a stream of animals in need of subsidised veterinary care daily.”

She added that while the team are blessed to have Hill’s Pet Nutrition feed the animals on a monthly basis, the cost of running an SPCA is high.

“From our animal carers to our inspectors, to veterinary staff and veterinary supplies, to fuel in our vehicles and vehicle maintenance to get to animals in need, we need sustainable funding to keep our operations at the high standard that we strive for,” said Wilson.

Book sales, fundraisers, corporate sponsorships, and debit order donors are all vital aspects that help to ensure the sustainability of the SPCA.

“And every person is able to help, whether it be something as simple as sharing our social media posts, signing up for a MySchool card and nominating the Sandton SPCA, donating unwanted goods and books to our Charity Shop, having an SPCA tin in your store or office, attending our fundraisers, joining our volunteer team or becoming a monthly debit order donor – every little act and donation counts,” she said.

The Sandton SPCA look forward to hosting more pop-up book sales in the future, keep an eye out on their social media pages.
