Boxing SA in the spotlight as local celebs go head-to-head

Sponsored by Celeb City and regulated by Boxing South Africa, Nyovest will take on NaakMusiQ, also known as Anga Makubalo, on the weekend of April 8 at Sun City.

The local boxing scene has moved into the spotlight as local celebrities Cassper Nyovest and NaakMusiQ prepare to go head-to-head in the ring.

Sponsored by Celeb City and regulated by Boxing South Africa, Kyalami resident Nyovest will take on Sandton resident NaakMusiQ, also known as Anga Makubalo on the weekend of April 8 at Sun City.

The group hosted a press conference in Sandton on March 30 ahead of the event.

Boxing South Africa acting CEO Erick Nsikayezwe hopes that by endorsing more exhibition bouts like this, more people will gain an interest in the sport.

“There is a child out there that follows Cassper Nyovest or follows NaakMusiQ that will be inspired by them and their bout.”

According to Nsikayezwe, this is where Boxing South Africa comes in to make sure that the young boxer’s talent is nurtured and developed so that he or she can be a future champion in South Africa.

“We are just embracing innovation and creativity, this will enhance the recognition of boxing in South Africa,” he said.

Nyovest added that helping the sport gain more recognition is a big part of why he got so involved with boxing and hosting celebrity exhibitions.

“I really love the sport and I feel like boxing in South Africa was dead, I feel like we had world champions in the country that people didn’t know about.”

This will be Nyovest’s second bout, the first saw the rapper defeat local YouTuber Slik Talk.

NaakMusiQ saw this as an opportunity for the pair to make history as an event of this magnitude had never been done before.

“There is this new trend of celebrities boxing around the world and, in turn, boxing is getting everyone’s attention. We watched it from afar and now there is an opportunity for our country,” said the local actor and musician.
