Theatre on the Square reopens with a bang

SANDTON – Owner of the theatre, Daphne Kuhn, noted that it was amazing to see so many happy faces back in the theatre.

The Theatre on the Square in Sandton was a buzz on February 10 for the opening of Locked Upside Down.

Judging by the constant laughter flowing throughout the show, the theatre’s first production of the year was a renowned success.

Described as a combination of songs, stories and a sanitiser, Locked Upside Down is directed by Alan Swerdlow, produced by Daphne Kuhn, and written and performed by Sharon Spiegel-Wagner, Lorri Strauss and Catherine Hopkins. The trio tells a story about the many highs and lows of their lives in lockdown.

The owner of the theatre, Kuhn, noted that it was amazing to see so many happy faces back in the theatre.

“I didn’t believe that such a thing could happen but here we are. Theatre plays such an important role in our lives and many take it for granted. It [the theatre] has brought so much joy, upliftment and work for 25 years not only to the industry but also to the audiences who have enjoyed coming here.”

Kuhn added that the theatre looks forward to welcoming many more people through its doors as it has an array of shows on the line-up for the year ahead.
