Successful fundraiser aids guide dogs

BENMORE – Through its annual Christmas cake sale last year, the lions managed to sell over 500 1kg Christmas cakes.

The Johannesburg Wild Lions Club in Benmore recently raised an astounding R12 000 in support of the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind.

Through its annual Christmas cake sale last year, the club managed to sell over 500 1kg Christmas cakes.

According to club president Mark Meltzer, it is amazing to not only support the guide-dogs association but with the help of the community. The club has sponsored the training of a number of guide dogs over the years.

“We will be sponsoring the training of a guide dog again which will be 35th guide dog sponsored by our Lions club.”

The guide-dogs association helps provide services to people who have visual, physical and developmental needs through training guide dogs, service dogs and autism support dogs.

Meltzer added that the cakes were a great hit as orders were rolling in well after Christmas.

“Thank you to all who purchased cakes from us this year,” he said.
