SANDOWN – The atmosphere at the arena was pumped up with pure adrenaline and excitement as new teams prepared themselves by learning some few do's and dont's of the sport with the of veterans

Dodgeball lovers were welcomed back to the Sandton Action Sports arena in Sandown after last year’s successful run.

The league had abruptly ended sooner than planned due to the omicron variant which restricted people from playing. The dodgeball season officially began on January 11.

The atmosphere at the arena was pumped up with pure adrenaline and excitement as new teams prepared themselves by learning some of the dos and don’ts of the sport from the veterans.

The first game of the season was between the Human Targets and the reigning champs, the Dodgefathers. The game had everything to offer in form of entertainment. Despite the league ending early, the Dodgefathers have crowned the champions of last year’s season as they were on top of the log table just before the league ended.

Adam Peloakgosi, who was the umpire of the match blew the first whistle at exactly 18:42 to commence both the game and season. Each team was positioned at the far end of their side and quickly made a run for the centre where the balls were stationed. The Dodgefathers immediately displayed their dominance and although Human Targets had a strong squad, they were no match against the mighty Dodgefathers.

The match ended with the Dodgefathers winning all three rounds. Captain of the Dodgefathers, Jean Michau, displayed pure talent in one of the rounds. Michau was the last person in his team and the opposition had two people with more balls in their half. Michau threw his last ball which contacted both players at the same time resulting in a win for the champs.

“When we look at some teams, you can pinpoint individuals that are quite strong and that’s who we usually go for first. We all throw as a team and duck as a team, that is our strategy. That specific moment where I was alone, I took a bit of a chance because they were coming for me at the same time but they were hesitating. To my luck, my final throw ended the match in favour of my team,” concluded Michau on his highlight of the match.
