Forest Farm continues to persevere

BRYANSTON – Not only did Forest Farm have to ensure the health and safety of its residents during the past year but it also had to cater to their mental and emotional stability.

The Forest Farm Centre looks forward to a year of growth following one of its toughest years in its history.

Based in Bryanston, the specialist care centre for adults with cerebral palsy conditions and special needs had to once again adjust, adapt and readapt as the community battled another year in a pandemic.

According to the centre’s Peter Lombard, not only did Forest Farm have to ensure the health and safety of its residents during the past year but it also had to cater to their mental and emotional stability.

“This meant that we could not engage in the usual social forums, resultant in having to find innovative ways of stimulating our residents and keeping them occupied and mentally alert.”

“Social work remained at the epicentre, with social worker Bulelwa Mahura, who is responsible for the emotional well-being and stimulation of our residents, going the extra mile even with limited resources to maintain the delivery of social services to our residents.

“It was particularly during this period of the pandemic when her professional services were evident in providing meaningful support to our residents,” said Lombard.

This year the centre is also looking to expand its services and cater to the wider community of senior adults.

“Aside from our care services to adults living with cerebral palsy and special needs, our older citizens of society can now also enjoy residential and general care, on a full board-and-lodge basis.”

The centre has also positioned itself to evolve its ever-changing fundraising landscape.

“While we aim to pursue the traditional channels of fundraising, we are also looking to explore dynamic and meaningful collaborations with corporates, foundations, institutions, organisations and individuals at large,” said Lombard.

The centre is currently in desperate need of two items, a ride-on lawnmower and an industrial-style dishwasher.
