Henry Cock raises over R1million towards mental health awareness
GREENSIDE – Henry Cock was exited about the Medshield Movement event powered by Pirates Club.
A homecoming event in honour of a local mental health awareness advocate was held at Pirates Running Club in Greenside.
The advocate, Henry Cock who has been an ambassador for Mental Health Awehness since July, was excited as he took part in the running event.
“Today was the first Medshield Movement 10km trail run event powered by Pirates Club and it was great because they did it in honour of me coming back from my record attempt. It was just great to see all my friends, mates and guys who supported me this year,” Cock said.
“Pirates did a fantastic job and every day a Pirates member ran with me for 21km daily, so they’re just a phenomenal club.”
His record attempt had been to run 21km daily, for four months, to break the world record 133 consecutive half marathons to raise awareness of mental health as well as funds for the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag). Cock was indeed successful as he broke the record in his 2 800km run and raised just over R1 million for Sadag.
“I just wanted to support them (Pirates) because they’re like my home. Fundraising is going well. My initial goal was R4 million. For Sadag we’ve raised almost R1.1 million and it’s the most that Sadag has ever raised by an individual sportsperson. Shoot for the moon and if you miss then at least you have the stars,” advised Cock.
For each ticket purchased for the Medshield Movement Event, R50 would be donated towards Mental Health Awehness.
Cock concluded that his plans for next year include a lot of rest and sleep and perhaps a major record attempt along the lines of Cape to Cairo.
