Election Day kicks off in Sandton and surrounds: What you need to know

It is a fine and sunny day in Joburg on November 1, perfect for residents across the community to cast their vote in this year’s municipal elections.

Over 140 000 registered voters in Sandton are expected to elect a ward councillor for their respective ward and for political parties to get seats at municipal level.

President Cyril Ramaphosa called on all registered voters to take the opportunity of the public holiday to exercise their democratic right and civil duty.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa has ensured that it is ready to deliver a fair and ‘transparent’ municipal election.

Chairperson Glen Mashinini confirmed at a briefing on October 26 that all measures are in place to ensure that the election runs smoothly.

“The president urges voters to ensure that they adhere to the Covid-19 health regulations as they exercise their vote,” said the presidency.

Voting stations are open from 07:00 to 21:00 – don’t forget your ID and face mask.

Ward 109: St Johannes Lutheran Church, Wendywood High School

Ward 32: Buccleuch Primary School, tent at John Park, corner John and Stirling Road, Kings School-Linbro Park

Ward 90: Dunkeld Bowls Club, Hyde Park High School, George Lea Sports Club, Craighall Primary School

Ward 91: St Davids’ Marist Inanda, Sandton Fire Station, Alexandra High School, Sandtonview School
