The Rotary Club of Sandton continues to make a difference in the community.

Volunteers and members of the club recently dedicated a day to clearing debris and litter from the banks of the Braamfontein Spruit near Riverside Park in Bryanston.

In line with one of Rotary International’s seven priorities of protecting the environment, the club carriers out multiple spruit clean=ups each year.

“The Rotary Club of Sandton has for many years had a very active environmental committee and recently it was felt that by addressing an environmental activity within our immediate home area we would let our local community to see the club in action,” said the club’s David Haddon.

On this particular clean-up day, the team of 10 individuals were able to fill just over 20 bags with litter and debris from the spruit.

Haddon added that the Braamfontein Spruit is used by many people from the community on a daily basis which is why it is important to maintain the area.

“We see them exercising, walking their dogs and generally enjoying the environment. The Rotary Club of Sandton, along with several other non-profit organisations, wants to make the area a place that local folk want to visit and enjoy free from ongoing pollution.”

Haddon encourages residents and schools to join the club for its next clean-up.
