Residents from Wendywood faced with a 10-year long water leak

WENDYWOOD – The first complaint that they reported was 11 years ago during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Residents from Wendywood have struggled for more than 10 years with a water leak located on the corner of Fleming Avenue and Darwin Street.

Local residents Marisa Rothbauer and her husband, Wolfgang Rothbauer, who live on this corner, reported the issue more than twice during the duration of the problem. The first complain that they reported was 11 years ago, during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

“Johannesburg Water was here. They opened up our meter to check whether our meter was leaking, it wasn’t. What they don’t realise is that there is a leak in the pipe valve. On June 10, there was a lady. She came to read the meter and took pictures. After that, someone came but they did not repair. I sent them an email a week ago and they still haven’t got back to me,” says Rothbauer.

Eleanor Mavimbela, spokesperson of Johannesburg Water, followed up on the matter with her team and concluded on August 26 that the problem was the interference with the Telkom sleeves which were located near the water leak.

Mavimbela assured that within the next two weeks, the issue concerning the water leak in Wendywood will be solved.
