Bryanston bowls to victory
SANDTON – This year’s tournament was a huge success with bowlers coming out in their numbers to play their best on the bowling greens.
Bowls continues to live on at Bryanston Sports Club.
The club was recently honoured as the club of the year, with star player Victor Siphali taking home the player of the year award, at the Johannesburg Bowls Association’s Perfect Delivery Masters tournament.
Hosted at Morningside Country Club on August 21 and 22, the tournament saw dozens of bowlers from the clubs in the surrounding areas come together on the greens.
According to president of the bowls section at Bryanston Sports Club Sipho Velempini, both of these achievements are the most sought after awards in bowls.
He added that the club of year award was also a true testament of all the outstanding work done by the club both on and off the field.
“The award is a credit to our players who have had an unbelievable season, our coaches who continue to produce a pipeline of talent, and the club’s leadership for positioning Bryanston Sports Club for the needs of our community.”
Velempini added that the Bryanston sporting community continued to grow at a welcoming pace.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, Bryanston Sports Club attracted new members who wanted to step out and take up a new challenge.”
According to Johannesburg Bowls Association’s Rob Zimmermann, this year’s tournament was an overall success with bowlers coming out in their numbers to play their best on the bowling greens.
After the two-day tournament, the men’s singles gold medal went to Jason Evans while Esme Haley took home the gold medal for the women’s singles.
