Two suspects arrested following robberies in Craighall and Athol

CRAIGHALL – According to Fidelity ADT, the two suspects were driving a Hyundai SUV with cloned registration plates.

Two suspects have been arrested following multiple robberies in Craighall and Sandton.

Fidelity ADT said on July 30, the suspects first hit Craighall. On July 31, they hit another house in the area, stealing two TVs and an iPhone.

According to a statement from Fidelity ADT, the same suspects broke into a home in Athol where one of them was apprehended by the security company. Goods stolen during the Craighall robbery were recovered as well as a stolen vehicle, according to ADT.

The second suspect allegedly fled the scene and tried to escape through other homes in the area.

Fidelity alerted Beagle and other security companies who later apprehended the second suspect.

Spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station, Captain Molefe Mogodi confirmed that two suspects had been arrested and further investigations were continuing.

According to Fidelity, the two suspects were driving a Hyundai SUV with cloned registration plates.

Community development manager at ADT, Carlos Pronto said they were seeing more vehicles with cloned number plates involved in robberies of this nature.

“Our licence plate recognition cameras in the area are useful in picking up these suspicious vehicles and we are hoping to close the net on these suspects involved in the recent spate of incidents,” said Pronto. “We also appeal to residents to report any suspicious activity in their area to their local security manager who can run the plates against the national crime database.”
