Giving hope to young girls in Alex
HURLINGHAM – The initiative is set to reach all 13 schools in Alexandra, each school will receive about 700 packs of sanitary pads
Rays of Hope continues to make a lasting impact to the community this Women’s Month.
As part of its drive to celebrate and assist women in the community this month, in partnership with the Department of Education’s Johannesburg East District, the non-profit organisation launched its sanitary pad drive on August 5.
According to marketing and event coordinator Thando Duma, the initiative is set to reach all 13 schools in Alexandra, each school will receive about 700 packs of sanitary pads.
“It’s heart-breaking to see many young girls miss school every month because they cannot afford one of the most basic needs, which is sanitary pads,” she said.
Rays of Hope’s Bertha Maringi handed the boxes of sanitary pads over to the department’s deputy chief education specialist Dr Ntombokayise Ngcobo in preparation for the distribution which is schedule to happen on August 18.
