Vandalism at Sandpark Substation compromises electricity supply to Sandton

SANDTON – Eskom encourages members of the public to report any criminal activities by reporting illegal connections, theft and the vandalism of electricity infrastructure.

Eskom has reportedly experienced a serious incident of vandalism at its Sandpark Substation which is the main source of electricity supply to the Sandton area.

According to the public utility, the incident on July 5 left the telecommunication equipment and cables vandalised, creating a major risk to the security of the electricity supply.

A spokesperson for the Distribution Division Gauteng Cluster Ronel Kotze added that technicians continued to work tirelessly throughout the night to ensure the continuity of supply to the Sandton area.

“Temporal control measures were implemented to keep the substation operating while repairs to the substation continue,” said Kotze.
