Bryanston High introduces whistleblowing tool for learners

BRYANSTON – FaceUp South Africa was founded by Bryanston High alumna and registered counsellor Cayley Jorgensen.

Bryanston High School has taken a proactive step in creating a safer environment for its learners.

The school recently introduced the online whistleblowing platform FaceUp South Africa to its community, to help create a safe place for learners to share their concerns about bullying, mental health, drug abuse and more.

“As a school we are always focused on the support that we offer to our learners and we are always trying to find new ways of helping them with their social and mental well-being,” said the school in a brief statement.

FaceUp South Africa was founded by Bryanston High alumna and registered counsellor Cayley Jorgensen, with the idea of empowering children, teenagers and adults to take control of their psychological, emotional and mental well-being.

“Whether physical or virtual, at FaceUp we believe that both work and learning environments should be a place of security, trust and safety for all,” she said.

Launching FaceUp at Bryanston High brought Jorgensen such pride because she remembered how difficult it could be to know where to turn or who to talk to at that young age.

“As a teenager, it can be scary to ask for help, fear of further victimisation as well as feeling like you can’t stand up and say something about bullying due to peer pressure.

“FaceUp gives learners a voice without the pressure of further victimisation or fear. You are able to report everything straight to the person who is able to help you.”

The response from the learners, parents and staff at Bryanston High has been phenomenal thus far. “We want our learners to use this platform when they need help and aren’t ready or comfortable to do it in person,” concluded the school.
