Business looks out for the community
BRYANSTON – The initiative had also begun clearing up in parts of Douglasdale, Northriding, Fourways, Broadacres and Lonehill.
The business sector is taking a more hands-on approach to helping the community.
On 7 May, a team of Engel and Völkers Southern Africa kicked off its #CleaningUpYourSuburb campaign in Bryanston which saw dozens of people clearing the overgrown pavement at the corner of Grosvenor Road and Bryanston Drive.
According to team leader Grace Mijiga, the campaign which initially began last year in other suburbs, is aimed at giving back to the community in a way which is often overlooked leaving the beautiful suburbs littered and overgrown.
Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood said, “The grass had grown to knee length – you wouldn’t have even known that there was a pavement here. “People could not walk safely on the pavement due to the overgrown grass which meant that they had to walk in the road.
“All of these little things go a long way in helping the community and making it attractive, it definitely does not go unnoticed. When you drive down Bryanston Drive and you see this, it really detracts from the area.”
He noted that it was amazing to see businesses operating in the community working together to improve the community.
Mijiga added, “This #CleaningUpYourSuburb campaign also seeks to collaborate with local business owners running small-scale enterprises in the landscaping and gardening industry.” For this particular clean-up, the team collaborated with Daniella Day of The Garden Girl.
“The idea is that this will not be a once-off occurrence, we will be doing this continuously, maintaining the areas all year round. Once a section has been cleared we will move onto another section and so on.”
The campaign had also been initiated in Douglasdale, North Riding, Fourways, Broadacres, and Lonehill.
