Wanderers Eighth League takes on Thusong Squash Development players in nail-biting challenge

ILLOVO – Wanderers eventually won by a close margin with 221 points beating Thusong by a mere 18 points.

In a squash development initiative by The Wanderers Club, at the tournament was arranged between Thusong Squash Development players and the Wanderers Squash Eighth League.

Thusong Squash Development manager Chris Hughes said, “We decided to arrange the challenge between the Wanderers league team and the development team because the restrictions have severely curtailed a lot of the activities of development squash.”

Hughes added that it was critical that the development squash players have opportunities to play other players of different skills levels to maintain enthusiasm and assess their skills level.

“All participants in the challenge match enjoyed the competitiveness of the event, and saw excellent skill levels on both sides with the lead swinging from team to team during the course of the tournament.”

The Thusong team including Bongani Machara, Ashley Modiba, Bandile Machara and David Machara took on Martin Cowper, Fabio Lorregian, Sasha Lunsche and Wayne Bennett of the Wanderers in a nail-biting series of matches.

Wanderers eventually won by a close margin beating Thusong by a mere 18 points.

A late challenge by Wanderers captain Graham West against Thusong captain Chris Hughes saw a 3–1 victory for Hughes.

Hughes said all participants in the challenge match enjoyed the competitiveness of the event and the excellent skills levels on both sides.
