The partnership between the Sandton Guardians, SAPS and security companies included patrols on foot and vehicle patrols this week.

Spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station Captain Bheki Xulu explained that on 19 October at 10.30pm, Sandton Guardians members were patrolling the area on the corner of Gibson and Pretoria Main Road in Buccleuch when they noticed three suspicious men between 23 and 30 years old.

Xulu said that when the suspects were approached, one suspect panicked and a member of the guardians reacted swiftly in order to secure them for a search. One suspect dropped an imitation firearm on the ground and ran into the bush while the other suspects were found in possession of an imitation firearm and knife during a body search.

“The suspects were apprehended with the assistance of police and charged with possession of imitation firearms and dangerous weapons,” said Xulu, adding that they would appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 21 October.

“The station commander of Sandton SAPS applauded the job well done by Sandton Guardians and encouraged other community members to join in sharing the responsibility.”

He requested that the community work with police and other law enforcement agencies to discourage criminal activities in the Sandton Policing Precinct by reporting crime on 086 001 0111 (Crime Stop) or Sandton SAPS on 011 722 4200.
