Golf, pickleball and a concert

BRYANSTON – you are a member or not, two golf tournaments, pickleball and the Sunset Concert will provide all the entertainment you need after a quiet few months.

The community can look forward to some upcoming fun golf and social events at Bryanston Country Club.

Whether you are a member or not, two golf tournaments, pickleball and the Sunset Concert will provide all the entertainment you need after a quiet few months.

The Hump Day, and Nine and Shine golf tournaments will run until 28 October and 13 November respectively. These are open to non-members and players compete for up to R10 000 and R5 000 in vouchers.

Then there is pickleball, a sport new to the country club as well as the country.

“I saw it in America and knew I had to bring it back here so I brought back some paddles,” said the country club’s general manager, Paul Leishman.

“We recently started it and everyone who played had fun.”

Pickleball is much like tennis, and the club uses its tennis courts for the games but smaller paddles are used instead of racquets and the balls are plastic with holes in them.

Players must hit the ball over the net to each other, only letting it bounce once before returning.

The annual Sunset Concert will be held on 24 and 25 October, with the first day for over 18s only and the second day a more family-friendly event.

All proceeds from the concert will go to the club’s charity trust.

The band, Thee Jam will perform while food trucks and beverage stations will be available.
