O Kae Molao operation sees 239 wanted suspects arrested

JOBURG – According to Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele, 154 suspects were also arrested for crimes related to gender-based violence including crimes committed against women and children.

The Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela and the Gauteng Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko led a successful O Kae Molao operation on 1 October in Johannesburg. 

 All the O Kae Molao operations conducted across the five districts of Gauteng resulted in the arrest of more than 920 suspects. 

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele, 239 of these wanted suspects were arrested in Johannesburg district for various crimes, with 154 arrested for crimes related to gender-based violence including crimes committed against women and children.

“Further tracing of wanted suspects led to the apprehension of 269 suspects sought by the law for serious offences such as armed robbery, murder, assault, business robbery, housebreaking, driving while under the influence of alcohol and possession of drugs,”‘ said Makhubele. 

Makhubele added that roadblocks, stop-and-search operations as well as compliance checks on liquor outlets were also conducted as police continued to enforce the law and the Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

The arrested suspects will appear in different magistrate courts in Gauteng in due course.
