Redhill join forces for good

According to co-leader Sonia Fianderio the group's final distribution is coming up soon and they would like to challenge other schools in the area to contribute to this initiative.

Redhill School rallied together to share in its power of community.

The school’s interact committee teamed up with the MealSA, a civil society Covid-19 reactive initiative, to give back to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Parktown.  Together with the organisation, the school was able to donate 250 face masks, 250 blankets and a whopping 1 000 kilograms of maize meal to help aid their Covid-19 patients.

MealSA has continued to run food distribution drives throughout the lockdown, donating maize meal wherever they could as it was the easiest and most sustainable way to feed people. The committee’s initial goal was to collect enough money for 67 bags of maize meal but that quickly changed as the group found themselves with almost 200 bags of maize meal.

They also took part in the distribution of the items. According to co-leader Sonia Fianderio the group’s final distribution is coming up soon and they would like to challenge other schools in the area to contribute to this initiative.  “Our students never cease to amaze us with their consistent care of the greater community, willingness to do what it takes to help support others during this time, and tireless efforts to help wherever there is a need. We are exceptionally proud of our Interact Committee has touched the lives of so many people throughout this pandemic,” said the school’s executive head, Joseph Gerassi.
