Curro Rivonia learner takes up lead supporting role

This will be Kamvalethu's first big role in a film but her family believes that she will do a phenomenal job.

A learner from Curro Rivonia is set to take up a supporting role in a local film.

Grade 4 learner Kamvalethu Jonas has been cast as the daughter of a lead character in an upcoming South Africa film Mlungu Wam. The young actress is scheduled to depart for filming in August.  Kamvalethu’s acting journey began when she was four years old. “We realised that she has an affinity for the stage, she has never shy to make new friends or sing loudly for a group of adults,” said the young learner’s aunt, Zintle Raziya.

After she participated in a ballet recital later, Kamvalethu realised her love for being on stage. She was presented with the opportunity to audition for the film. “We were thrilled to know that Kamvalethu was shortlisted for the role and soon made it for the lead supporting role of the character Winnie in the film.”

This will be Kamvalethu’s first big role in a film but her family believes that she will do a phenomenal job. Kamvalethu hopes that this opportunity will open many more opportunities for her in the future.

Head of the drama department at Curro, Justin Engelbrecht, could not be happier for the young actress. “I am very proud of Kamva. This is an exciting opportunity for her to participate in the South African film industry and showcase South African stories,” he said.  Kamva is an intelligent and talented young lady. I anticipate her audience will enjoy her performance as much as I have enjoyed having her in my class,” Engelbrecht concluded.
