Need someone to talk to? The Sandton Victim Empowerment Programme (VEP) remains fully operational and ready to lend a helping hand.
The dedicated group of counsellors offers a free-of-charge service to victims of a crime who have been left traumatised and may require counselling. “We offer trauma counselling for anyone who has recently been a victim of a crime, be it rape, domestic / gender-based violence, home invasions, hi-jacking, common robbery, intimidation or assault, etc,” said chairperson Siven Naidoo.
Naidoo added that the team has remained committed to providing counselling services despite the restrictions presented by the lockdown. The fully trained and experienced team who would usually provide-face-to-face counselling services from the Sandton Police Station in Morningside. Counsellors have now adapted to offering telephonic counselling.
“Our helpline is operational seven days a week between the hours of 8am and 8pm. Please call us if in need or send an SMS to us to call you back.” Residents in need are encouraged to contact VEP. Any information shared in these counselling sessions will remain confidential and not be shared with the police or anyone else.
“We have successfully helped many Sandton residents and steered them in the direction of recovery after a traumatic event in their lives. Victims should not be silent and must speak out against their perpetrators and in the process get the help and closure they need,” concluded Naidoo.
