Learners of all ages shared images of their families dressed in the school’s famous colour palette of blue, red and white. The Thandulwazi Maths and Science Academy and Kamoka Bush School joined in.

According to Gayle Harris, head of the junior preparatory school, the college colours remind her of a big blue African sky. “Up here in the Highveld, we see billowing white clouds which turn a dark grey before the red bolts of lightning and deep rumbles of thunder signal a storm is on its way. But, the rain doesn’t last forever and so too the Covid-19 storm will come to pass,” Harris added.

Many learners and staff members also used the opportunity to share inspirational messages, quotes and creative pieces.

Preparatory school art teacher Louise Eichner created a visual tree representing the unity of the college, emphasising the importance of family. “‘Be Stronger One and All’ cannot be done without one another, or without our immediate family, colleagues and friends. It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a family both far and near to give one strength,” she added.

Rector Tim Nuttall said that it was an extraordinary experience to see the school community come together, especially during a time like this. “How inspiring it has been to see Saints families standing together in home and garden spaces – the Saints community gathering virtually to lift our spirits and build belonging,” he said.
