Covid-19: Eblockwatch is committed to helping the community

BRYANSTON – The residents of Bryanston and Alexandra come together during the lockdown.

The 21-day national lockdown has affected a number of communities, patrol groups and volunteers in the north of Joburg and South Africa as a whole. A necessary step in the fight against Covid-19, eblockwatch members have now come together, even more, to assist where they can.

Founder of eblockwatch André Snyman said that they will be doing their bit in assisting the community.

“Alexandra (township) is more in a crisis than anywhere else right now. There are more people living in such close proximity than anywhere else and right next to that is Sandton the wealthiest place in SA,” he said.

He mentioned that now is the opportunity to build the bridges that should have been built 20 years ago. It’s time for communities to show their spirit of ‘Ubuntu’ and come together.

Eblockwatch has identified a charity called Rays of Hope which is situated in the township of Alexandra.

“It is actually over 20 years old in Alex. What they do is distribute food to orphans, single parents, the elderly and anyone in need. Now because of the lockdown, they cannot get their supplies because they can’t drive around to do collections.”

Heading the drive with Snyman is Bertha Muchadeyi, programme manager for Rays of Hope.

“This is really exciting to see the two communities coming together during this crisis. This is a time to come together in unity and love to fight the spread of this pandemic and having our dear Sandton neighbours generously giving and sharing,” said Muchadeyi

This will ensure that the residents of Alexandra will reduce movement and stay home. “When people have enough food they stress less. Together we can conquer,” she said.

With 143 000 members on the eblockwatch network, together with the community, they will collect and donate the necessary items needed in Alexandra at this time.

“I have sent out a message to all the people on the app. Starting in Bryanston, the idea is to twin with a suburb in Alex, so what we will do is get the Bryanston community to download the Breaze delivery app and start shopping for donations,” said Snyman

He said they have adjusted it to add the eblockwatch page just for donations. The orders will go through a number of channels and finally reach their destination.

“Eblockwatch works with a number of security companies, they will be doing patrols anyway. They will receive a message, collect the goods in the Bryanston area and once a bulk of goods has been collected, it will then be delivered to Rays of Hope for the necessary distribution in the community.”

If you would like to get involved, visit the App: https://qrco.de/Breaze, the website: www.breaze.co.za or André Snyman via his Facebook page at André Snyman eblockwatch @eblockwatchnational

“At this stage, it is more about looking after those in need, think of eblockwatch as a switchboard. If you have a problem, contact us and we will then plug you to the right person, place and time that can support on almost anything.”
