City’s clean-up of taxi ranks continues from Midrand to Sandton
JOBURG – The City of Joburg has been cleaning many taxi ranks across the city during the lockdown.
The City of Johannesburg has taken up the opportunity of the lockdown to clean up and sanitise public facilities across Joburg and this was no different for Midrand, Sunninghill and Sandton areas.
On 28 and 29 March, the City had a widespread clean-up in the inner city, cleaning and sanitising various taxi ranks.
Joburg Property Company, together with the City, gathered its cleaning teams to sanitise the Sunninghill, Midrand and Sandton taxi ranks on 29 and 30 March.
The before and after pictures were just as impressive as residents have urged the City to continue this even after the lockdown, making it a norm to keep public transport facilities in general clean.

When some Twitter users asked why the City only cleans up when there is a Covid-19 outbreak, the City tweeted that they have a team of cleaners every night after hours, however, some commuters litter and do not keep the ranks clean.

Cleaning is done regularly but because our communities don't care about public space efforts of the City are not noticed. Hopefully when things get back to normal people will keep these spaces neat and clean.
