Bryanston primary pulls up their socks

BRYANSTON – Bryanston Primary School reunite odd socks to distributed to displaced people in the community during the winter season.

Bryanston Primary School has reunited orphaned odd socks.

Partnering with the Odd Socks Project, the school has been collecting orphaned odd socks and pairing them up by size and fabric. These fun combinations will be distributed to displaced people during the winter.

Teacher Tania Roman is championing this charity drive. “We love this idea because nobody really thinks that an odd sock could change someone’s life or offer a little comfort in a cold spell.”

Roman added that it costs no money to support this worthy cause. “Just a quick look through your cupboard, the laundry and any nooks and crannies in your home for those languishing odd socks, because every single sock deserves a second chance.”

Founder of the project Abrie du Plooy, added that the initiative’s main distribution channel was through soup kitchens. “It works well as the homeless come to the soup kitchens,” she said.

“We also distribute socks to shelters, orphanages, churches with outreach programmes and informal settlements. Already more than 16 000 mismatched socks have been donated across South Africa.”

Should you have any single or odd socks that you would like to donate or even a new pair of socks, the school will greatly appreciate the community’s assistance in driving this worthy cause.

“We want your odd socks, the singles, the lonely socks that got separated from their former sock partners through some laundry divorce,” said teacher Tania Roman.

The project will run for three months from March to May.
