Which province will emerge as the top achiever for matrics of the Class of 2019?

JOBURG – Matriculates hold their bated breath in anticipation of their performance in the Grade 12 examinations for 2019.

It’s D-day tomorrow, 7 January for the matrics of the Class of 2019 as they will learn their fate after spending 12 long years of schooling.

Matriculants all over the country and especially those in Gauteng will learn how they fared in their Grade 12 examinations as these results will be available at all schools in the country as of today.

On 8 January, Gauteng Department of Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi will award and honour the province’s top achievers at a ceremony in Randburg and the country’s top achieving province will then be unveiled by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga.

The 2018’s top achiever was Gauteng with 87.9 per cent and by the Free State at 87.5 per cent. It would be interesting to see whether the Gauteng province can maintain the status quo for 2019.

In 2015 it was the Western Cape with 84.7 per cent followed by Gauteng at 84.2 per cent and the Free State emerged as the top achiever for two years in a row in 2016 with 93.2 per cent, closely followed by the Western Cape at 87.7 per cent. The Free State came back strongly again in 2017, with 86.1 per cent followed by Gauteng at 85.1 per cent.
