Saints rowers and divers make their school proud

LYME PARK – Young divers and rowers of St Stithians Girls' Preparatory School have had a stellar end to the year.


The young divers and rowers of St Stithians Girls’ Preparatory School have had a stellar end to the year, making their school proud in various competitions.

On the weekend of the 1 to 3 November, the school’s rowing girls took part in the Gauteng Rowing Championships which saw almost 800 rowers from across the province take part.

Seventeen of the school’s learners took to the water under the banner of the St Stithians Girls’ Rowing Club. U14 girls double rowing team Teagan Griessell and Ashleigh Antoncich won bronze in a nail-biting finish.

The U14 girls’ octuple rowing team won silver. The team consisted of Mary Lodewyk, Biana Akpokabayen, Rene Gouws, Fifi Mugadza, Rethabile Mojalefa, Liyema Ndamase, Jessica Crookes, Mbali Mahlangu and Zoe Cuyler.

Some of the school’s divers competed at the South African Diving Champs representing Gauteng Schools. Katherine Leschner and Jessica Bell finished second and third respectively, and Rylee Baker finished first in the development category.

The school commented that they are extremely proud of the young athletes’ achievement.
