Breast Health Foundation partner for tattooed confidence

SANDTON – The Breast Health Foundation has partnered with Sandton City to help breast cancer survivors regain their confidence with areola tattoos

For breast cancer awareness month this year, the Breast Health Foundation has partnered with Sandton City to both raise awareness and put the confidence back into the hands of breast cancer survivors. Together with Sandton City, the non-profit provides funding for areola tattoos for patients that have been unable to access the service financially.

Established in 2002, the foundation was established to educate the people in breast cancer and breast health, increase awareness and empower women.

According to COO Louise Turner, this is a very exciting moment for the foundation as well as breast cancer patients. “[We] will be helping numerous survivors across the country by covering the cost of their areola tattoos in a hope to assist them in some small way to feel empowered and confident again,” she said.

Breast cancer treatments often involve a number of medical measures such as chemotherapy, radiation, the surgical removal of the affected area, as well as hormonal and targeted therapies.

“Some survivors do not have their financial means to access such as service and are unable to regain confidence in their bodies in this way. This is where cosmetic areola tattoos have gained recognition,” Turner added.

According to the foundation, survivors of breast cancer, particularly those that have undergone surgical breast removal, are left with a change of self-image, notwithstanding the deeply emotional toll this disease takes on them and their families.
