Lycée Jules Verne embraces Heritage Day

MORNINGSIDE – The Lycée Jules Verne French International School was painted rich with culture and tradition as it joined in on the Heritage Day celebrations.

The Lycée Jules Verne French International School in Morningside embraced this year’s Heritage Day celebration by encouraging learners to come dressed in their traditional wear. Many of the pre-primary school learners created art displays to put up around the school.

Learners came fitted in their traditional attire which truly represented the diversification in the school. The international school has learners from the ages of two to 18 which represent just over 70 different nationalities from all across the world.

According to the school’s communication’s manager Nonhlanhla Kunene, celebrating Heritage Day gives the children the opportunity to both acknowledge and highlight their different cultures while strengthening their sense of community and belonging to the community.

“With over 1 100 learners representing more than 70 different nationalities on campus, it’s important for us to show our learners that we respect all people and believe that our differences make us all unique and that they should always be celebrated,” she said.

The school campus in Pretoria also joined in on the festivities, Kunene added. “Just seeing our learners dressed in their colourful traditional outfits was simply beautiful to see. Seeing how they express themselves through art or dance was the highlight of my day.”
