SA Women Fight Back has silent protest on William Nicol
SANDTON – Women wore black to honour women who have died.
SA Women Fight back wore black to raise awareness about the violence women are subjected to, the Joburg team gathered at the intersection of William Nicol Drive and Republic Road in Sandton.
On 31 August, women across the Nation joined silent protests. The Facebook group called SA Women Fight Back was started by a friend of Meghan Cremer who was allegedly murdered in Cape Town [the case is still underway]. The small group was started on Facebook which gained overnight momentum.
Since then, women across the country have been sharing their stories. Stories of abuse, violence and murder. The Facebook group has been deliberately created private in order to protect the women who share their stories.
The Joburg group gathered at the well-known intersection, dressed in black to support the ‘fallen angels’. Fallen angels refers to the ever-growing list of women who have died due to violence.
