Students donate cans of hope to charity

SANDTON – Boston Media House Public Relations charity donate cans to Thuthuzela Aid Community.

Learners who are in their final year studying public relations at Boston Media House, Sandton, donated 5 840 Cans of Hope to Thuthuzela Aid Community Centre in Marlboro for Mandela Day.

Every year, the Boston Media House final year public relations students are required to put together a charity campaign for a registered charity of their choice to support the local community and gain much-needed real-world experience.

The Class of 2019 picked Thuthuzela Aid Community Centre situated in Marlboro. Thuthuzela Aid Community Centre is a day-care centre that provides a place of safety for abandoned, abused, orphaned and neglected children in the community.

The Can of Hope campaign had an initial goal of collecting 5 000 cans of non-perishable foods. After running on-campus activations for the past three months, which encouraged students, staff and lecturers to bring cans, 5 840 cans were collected. It is hoped that these cans will go towards helping to feed the children of Thuthuzela.

The campaign would not be possible without the generous support of Tiger Brands and their KOO and All Gold brands who donated 5 000 cans and The Zodwa Khoza Foundation who donated 500 cans.

The willingness of other sponsors such as Bob Cuts Hair Salon as well as the local Sandton community which included Postnet Benmore, Tsogo Sun, Booth Nightclub and the Black Forest Bakery in Parkmore, who all donated prizes and showed the spirit of generosity that surrounded the Can of Hope campaign.
