17 July: POP Event – Talk on Cyber Defence

Join the Wharton Club of South Africa for an informative evening with Noam Rosenfeld, former cyber defence commander in the Israel Defence Forces, and Ronen Milman, former head of special operations at the Israeli Security Agency (both now senior vice presidents at Verint) who will be discussing the need for senior executives to take control of their organisations’ cyber defence, and not only leave this responsibility to the IT department.

We concur with former French Prime Minister Clemenceau who said, “War is too important to leave to the generals”, and believe that this session will leave you better prepared to face what the World Economic Forum has dubbed the second most Interconnected Risks of 2019: large-scale cyber attacks plus breakdown of critical information infrastructure and networks.

Drinks and snacks included.

19 July: Hot Club d’Afrique live at the Sandton AG Theatre on the Square

Round off a busy work week and enjoy an hour of 1930s French Gypsy Jazz during your Friday lunch break. The set will include the 1930s and current Gypsy Jazz standards, original compositions, and classic French and English ballads.

Tea and biscuits included.

When: 1pm – 2pm

20 July: BMW Sandton Motorrad Intro 2 Dirt

Enjoy a taste of adventure with the upcoming Intro2Dirt course, hosted by Gravel and Mud Adventures.

Course Contents:

  • Bike controls
  • Turning on gravel
  • Throttle control
  • Braking.

Once the course is completed, there will be a short gravel ride to Clay Cafe in Irene. Lunch is for each riders’ account.

When: from 7am

Where: Sandton BMW Mottorad, 126 Rivonia Road, 2196 Sandton.

Cost: R350 per person. Limited to 15 spaces. RSVP and payment are essential to book your slot before 17 July.

10 August: Dip Your Toes in – Some insight into Beekeeping and what is involved

Thinking about beekeeping as a hobby, but need to understand what is involved, what it could cost you, how much time you need to invest etc.?

Registered beekeeper, Sharon will share her experience through an informal discussion – What you need to know if you are wanting to take up beekeeping, training courses available, legalities, where to buy equipment, what you will need and average cost thereof.

10 & 11 August: Basics of Beekeeping – Beekeeping Introductory Training Course

Please join us for an inspiring and highly informative Training Course designed for Beginners with no beekeeping experience and New Hobbyist Beekeepers with one or two hives, who need to know more and are looking for some exposure to working with bees.

Modules include: Getting started, know your bees: Inside the Hive, Beehive components and accessories, how & when to harvest honey, acquiring bees: Buying vs Catching and installing a swarm, what can go wrong? And more.

Includes practical sessions in the Apiary and in the Honey Room.

When: 9am – 4.30pm Saturday and Sunday.
