Taxi rolls leaving one person killed and multiple injured
WOODMEAD – Netcare 911 Rescue technicians had to use the Jaws of Life to access the patients trapped in the taxi.
Today (15 July), Netcare 911 responded to reports of a collision on the corner of Woodmead and Woodlands drives in Woodmead, Sandton.
According to Shawn Herbst from the communications office of Netcare 911, the collision happened in the early hours of Monday morning, at approximately 5.46am.
Herbst said that reports from the scene indicate that a mini-bus taxi and a light motor vehicle were involved in a collision resulting in the taxi rolling.
“Approximately 20 patients sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.”
Herbst also said that one person, an adult male, sadly sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.
“Due to the nature of the seriously injured patient, the Netcare 1 specialised helicopter air ambulance was activated to airlift the patient to the hospital.”
All necessary authorities were present at the scene.
