Security guard shot and killed in a Woodmead business robbery

WOODMEAD – Police are on the hunt for multiple armed suspects who robbed a shop and took an undisclosed number of cellphones from customers on Saturday morning, 29 June.


Sandton police have launched a manhunt for suspects who shot and killed a security guard at a shopping complex in Woodmead in the morning of 29 June.

In a statement, the police said they are looking for an armed gang of suspects that robbed a shop and fatally shot an security guard.

It is alleged that seven to 10 suspects armed with rifles and pistols entered a shop and pointed their firearms at customers. “The suspects then took an undisclosed number of cellphones and robbed customers their cellphones, wedding rings and wrist watches.”

The suspects encountered a security guard as they fled the scene and shot him in the upper body. He was declared dead on the scene.

The police believe the suspects had four different getaway vehicles – two white Toyota Corolla sedans, one Toyota bakkie and a Hyundai SUV.

Police have appealed to anyone who might have information to come forward and contact the nearest police station or call crime stop on 08600 10111.
