Redhill School hosts fundraising golf day

MORNINGSIDE – The school raised enough funds to ensure an 11-year-old boy could get a wheelchair.

Redhill School hosted its second annual golf day to help raise funds for two charities in need.

The golf day, hosted at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club hosted its first golf day last year to raise funds for its Matric Dance Committee. However, this year, the school set its sights on assisting two charities for children.

The funds raised from the golf day were the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation and the Siyakhula Children’s Home. Mitchell Moore, the organiser of the event, said that this was the first time the school had worked with the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, however, Interact, the school’s community outreach programme, has worked with the SiyaKhula Children’s Home often before.

“We have had a relationship with the children’s home for many years, and it is part of our school ethos and values to care. We value this quite highly, and feel that aiding children who do not have the opportunities we have is imperative in this day and age,” said Moore.

He added that they decided to work with the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation because of the work they have done in the past.

Moore said the event was a great success given that they had a short time to plan the event and the school will be hosting another golf day next year to assist the same charities. Moore said that those who attended the event gave it their utmost support and he hopes more people will get involved in the next initiative.

The golf day helped to raise funds to buy an 11-year-old boy a much-needed wheelchair as well as donate to some projects at the SiyaKhula Children’s Home which are close to their hearts.
