Sandton Guardians show appreciation for police and CPF

SANDTON – The Sandton Guardians hosted a braai at the Gallo Manor Police Station to show their appreciation for the Sandton CPF and the police.

The Sandton Guardians hosted a braai at the Gallo Manor Police Station to thank members of the police and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) for their efforts.

The Sandton Guardians, which act as a neighbourhood watch group, took the opportunity to celebrate the hard work done by the police and the CPF.

Prem Byjnal, a member of the Sandton Guardians, said the event allowed members the opportunity to get together and network while also thanking the members for their role in keeping the community safe.

“We really appreciate the support we get from Sandton SAPS, we’ve heard it plenty of times but I don’t think any other police forum or guardians have the same level of support,” said Byjnal.

The Sandton Police Station Commander, Brigadier Egen Moodley accepted a certificate on behalf of the police station for their work. The founder of the Sandton Guardians, Luewellyn Pillay, was posthumously recognised for his commitment to community safety.

Moodley said that the CPF and the guardians are some of the most active community safety groups he has ever worked with. He added that he has a great deal of respect for the volunteers who give their all despite not receiving any pay for all their work.

He added that he feels it’s important to make time for the guardians and the policing forum because of the contributions they make to the community.

Byjnal said that the Sandton Guardians have grown considerably and he hopes that it will continue to grow in the future and extend to more neighbourhoods within Johannesburg.

Community members are encouraged to get involved with the policing forum, guardians or the Youth Desk. Some poling sectors have more volunteers than others and the CPF hopes to expand their numbers and begin working with neighbouring communities like Randburg and Fourways to try and address crime on a greater scale.
