Sandton police highlight crime trends

SANDTON – The Sandton Police Station releases its weekly report of crime trends within the Sandton area.


The Sandton Police Station has highlighted some of the crime trends within the Sandton area.

In Sector 1, which covers Edenburg, Gallo Manor, Khyber Rock, Rivonia, Sunninghill, Woodlands and Woodmead, burglaries and theft out of motor vehicles were the biggest contribution to crime. Granville Meyer, the spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station said that in most incidents the doors and windows were forced open in areas of interest.

Targeted suburbs include Edenburg, Sunninghill and Woodmead. These incidents took place on Monday and Friday between 12pm and 9pm.

In Sector 2, which covers Brecknock, Bryanston, Klevehill Park, Lonehill and Paulshof, Petervale, Rietfontein and Riverclub theft out of a motor vehicle was the main contribution to crime in the sector. In most incidents, the doors and boots of the car were forced open and electronic equipment was targeted.

These incidents took place between 4pm to 7pm on Friday and Tuesday. The most targeted suburb was Bryanston.

In Sector 3, the main crimes committed were theft out of motor vehicles and aggravating robbery. Sector 3 includes Benmore Gardens, Dalecroos, Dennehof, Duxberry, Hurlingham, Hurlpark, Little Fillian, Moodie Hill, Morningside, Morningside Manor, Morningside Ext 40, New Brighton, Parkmore, Sandown, Sandhurst, Strathavon and Sunset Acres.

Meyer said most incidents occurred at places of interest where the suspect’s targeted electronic equipment. In the instances where a robbery with a firearm was committed, victims were targeted at traffic lights. These incidents mainly took place between 4pm and 11pm on Monday and Friday.

In Sector 4, which includes Buccleuch, Lower Gallo Manor, Eastgate, Kelvin, Kelvin View, Kramerville, Marlboro North, Wendywood and Wesco Park, house burglaries were the primary crime committed. In most incidents, the doors and windows were forced open. These incidents took place on Thursday between 12pm and 4pm.
