Residents in Morningside and Sandown experience 17-hour power outage

MORNINGSIDE – There is no estimated time of restoration for residents in Sandown and Morningside who have had no power for nearly a day.

Residents in Sandown and Morningside are growing frustrated as they experience a power outage that has lasted more than 17 hours.

Ward 103 councillor, Vincent Earp, said that residents have not had power since the evening of 8 April.

“For the residents its an absolute nightmare, they haven’t had power for more than 17 hours,” said Earp. Numerous residents had reported the outage to Earp and he said that he was doing his best to escalate the problem.

Earp highlighted that as Eskom is not a City department it is difficult to maintain contact and keep up to date with them.

Reneiloe Semenya, stakeholder and communications head for Eskom, said that they are aware of the problem, however, they do not yet have an estimated time of restoration. She added that residents do not need to continue reporting the problem as technicians are working on it.

Earp added that as a councillor he is not able to log a fault in the area as he does not live in the specific area covered by Eskom. “Whenever you log a fault with Eskom you give an account number and I don’t have an account number so the residents need to get a reference number from them.”

Earp added that Sandown residents would also struggle with water outages as part of a planned pipe replacement project in Ext 24.
