Wesley Pre-School learners enjoy a Teddy Bears Picnic day

BRYANSTON – Wesley Pre-School hosts a Teddy Bears Picnic day filled with fun treats.

Wesley Pre-School had a fun-filled day at the Teddy Bears Picnic, held at Bryanston Methodist Church grounds, on 8 March.

For the past 20 years, The Teddy Bears Picnic is celebrated in the first term of the school year.

Prior to the day of the picnic, the learners had to make box-cars from recycled boxes as a class activity. The box-cars were then decorated with paint, pictures and cut-outs. On the day of the picnic, the learners brought their picnic blankets and soft toys to school and the teddies were then pulled along in their box-cars. On the way, the little ones had to look out for the ten teddies that lost their way – they were hidden in trees and bushes along the route.

Once they arrived at the picnic, they took part in box-car races and enjoyed hot dogs, popcorn, juice and a treat.

“The picnic we had on Friday was enjoyable. The weather was sunny and warm and the children thoroughly enjoyed their morning,” said Christine Wrathall, principal at Wesley Pre-school. “They particularly enjoyed keeping a look-out for the ‘lost-teddies’ and having to see whose box-car was the fastest!”

The picnic had always been an event that the learners look forward to with excitement, “The Teddy Bears Picnic was fun. I found the last lost teddy bear and we got yummy hotdogs,” said Ethan Marsh (2), a learner at Wesley Pre-School.
