Tease! Comes to Auto and General Theatre on the Square

SANDTON – Comedy giants team up for a show with a healthy dose of self-deprecating humour and a whole lot of heart.

First lady of comedy, Tumi Morake and the original ‘Cave Woman’, Vanessa Frost team up again in Naledi-nominated Tease! at the Auto and General Theatre on the Square.

The play premiered at the National Arts Festival, Grahamstown followed by a sold-out run at the Market Theatre in 2016.

The storyline is about Eva and Neo, best friends and partners in a suburban hair salon who reach crossroads in their personal lives. Stumbling into an adult toy shop one night, they make some acquisitions and this inspires an idea… With a healthy dose of self-deprecating humour and a whole lot of heart, versatile Morake and Frost play many familiar characters including the elderly Muslim and Jewish women who return weekly to have their hair set…and sample new toys.

Frost said the meeting of minds in the process was synchronous and that extensive research went into the writing of the script. They found themselves exploring heartfelt and hard truths to present a potent message about female sexuality and desire.

“It’s been about finding the comedy in each of these moments while exploring the moments that don’t require comedy,” she said.

“It’s about answering the question we all quietly worry about – am I normal?”

Director Jose Domingos said Tease! was a journey of self-discovery. “The themes are universal which means that I think there’s something in it for everyone,” he said.

The production opens with a preview at Sandton’s Auto and General Theatre on the Square on 27 February and runs until the 21 March.

Bookings can be made at Computicket (call 0861 915 800 or online www.computicket.com).

Tickets can also be reserved by calling the theatre on 011 883 8606.
