Show support for World Cancer Day on 4 February

SANDTON – World Cancer Day is held on 4 February each year to raise awareness and mobilise the global community to make progress against cancer.

In order to commemorate World Cancer Day, which falls on 4 February, two organisations in Sandton will be hosting events to raise awareness.

World Cancer Day was first held in 2000 at the World Summit against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris. The Paris Charter has a variety of goals which include promoting research, preventing cancer, improving patient services, raising awareness and mobilising the global community to make progress against cancer, which includes the adoption of World Cancer Day.

On 31 January Reach for Recovery, which provides support to women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, will be hosting a breakfast with Pick n Pay, the Mushroom Farmers Association and Mpact to discuss the benefits of a healthy diet and hear from women whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

The Conscious Care Circle will also be hosting an event to hear the stories of cancer survivors and offer support. The Conscious Care Circle offers a wide range of treatments to ensure that cancer-sufferers can have a holistic healing experience.

On its website, Cansa highlights that there are a variety of things that groups and individuals can do. Some of the things that can be done include improving access to early screening and detection, advocate for policies to support healthy lifestyles and create healthy schools, workplaces and cities. As an individual people can ensure they live a healthy life which includes eating healthily, exercising regularly and being aware of early warning signs.
