Puppies in the Park promises to be a fun day for a good cause

MORNINGSIDE – Puppies in the Park will be hosted at Ernest Ullmann Park on 27 January.

The VW club of South Africa, consisting of a wide variety of car lovers, will be hosting its annual Puppies in the Park event in Sandton to extend their love to animals in need.

The club is made up of members who are crazy about fixing, cleaning and driving their beloved Volkswagen’s. However, they decided to create an event that would share that love with animals, who don’t receive as much attention. The event was conceptualised four years ago when the committee decided to host a fundraising event for their furry friends. Dieter van den Heuvel, a committee member said, “It proved to be a great success and after the first charity day it was clear that we had a moral obligation to help those without a voice, so it became a must-have event in our yearly calendar.”

This year’s event will be hosted at the Ernest Ullmann Park on 27 January. All the proceeds from this year’s event will be going to the Woodrock Animal Rescue which is based in Hennops River. Van den Heuvel highlighted that the rescue centre is passionate about rescuing all types of animals from the surrounding communities and will do anything to rescue, sterilise, rehabilitate and rehome animals.

Van den Heuvel added that the event is a family and pooch-friendly event that promises to be a fun day out while helping a good cause. Entrance to the event is free, however, there will be raffle prizes sponsored by individuals and companies to help with the fundraising. There will also be cool drinks on sale.

Those who wish to join the event are encouraged to bring blankets, gazebos, camping chairs, snacks and some money to take part in the raffle draw.

Woodrock Animal Rescue would also appreciate direct donations including:

  • Puppy pellets/ sachets and tins
  • Kitten food sachets
  • Cat litter
  • Dog shampoo
  • Cleaning equipment including brooms, mops, dust pans, scrubbing brushes, refuse bags, dishwashing liquid and dish sponges.
