#RolexGang success: Two suspects arrested in Sandton CBD

SANDTON – The Sandton police recently arrested two suspects in the Sandton CBD.

Members of the Sandton Police Crime Combatting Team recently arrested two suspects possibly linked to the Rolex gang.

The arrest took place on 15 January around 8pm when the team was on patrol and stopped and searched the occupants of a black Volkswagen Golf.

This according to Brigadier Egen Moodley, station commander at the Sandton Police Station who said the suspects were behaving suspiciously at the corner of 5th Street and Rivonia Road.

“They searched the vehicle and arrested the two suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs and possession of dangerous weapons.”

Moodley said that two unlicensed firearms, one 9mm pistol with 13 live rounds and one HMC submachine gun with 21 live rounds with filed off serial numbers were recovered. In addition, the suspects had one sachet of powdered cocaine, two okapi knives, two balaclavas and two pairs of hand gloves.

He added that the suspects are believed to be involved in Rolex robberies and linkages/profiling are being conducted.

The items that were seized during the arrest in the Sandton CBD.

The two suspects, who are 26 and 36 years old, will appear in the Alexandra Regional Magistrate’s Court soon.

“I applaud the members for their sterling work which is ensuring that the Sandton community is safe and feels safe,” said Moodley.

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, has welcomed the arrest of two suspects.

“I would like to commend the police for stopping these criminals in their tracks. I am delighted that finally the law enforcement agencies are closing in and dismantling the ‘Rolex Gang’ cartel. These criminals have been for quite some time instilling fear to shoppers in Sandton and surrounding areas.”

He added that he is confident that with the evidence at the police’s disposal, they will be able to present a water-tight case to ensure highest possible terms behind bars.

“This will send a strong message that Gauteng has zero tolerance against any act of criminality,” said Nkosi-Malobane.
