Kelvin Residents Association: Year in review
SANDTON – Luewellyn Pillay of the Kelvin Residents Association sheds some light on the year that has passed.
Last year flew by and the residents of Kelvin has assisted to make the community a better a place.
Luewellyn Pillay of the Kelvin Resident’s Association (KRA) said the board has overseen significant growth in resident membership which, in turn, has enabled the board to reinvest into security measures in Kelvin, including additional fencing along Marlboro Drive and a surveillance system. In addition, the Gautrain made its entry into Kelvin after eight years, with a much-appreciated shuttle service. “Great excitement is derived from seeing the gold bus snake through the suburb.”

He said the KRA has a close working relationship with the Sandton CPF through the Sandton Guardians Community Patroller Program, which has seen a significant reduction in crime and a few great arrests. “Our community patrollers have achieved unity, cohesion and consequently, results, with law enforcement and security companies and we are indebted to these brave volunteers and officers for their dedication.”
He continued that the loss of Colonel Reggie Pillay from Sandton Police Station and Thembalani Mpini from ZSS Security has affected the community greatly and they continue to be missed.
“Pulse, our Community Responsibility Initiative, continues to support charitable endeavours, supporting children’s homes in the Kelvin and Buccleuch areas as well as disaster relief in Alexandra Township when required.”
He said looking forward to the rest of 2019, they are rolling out a comprehensive security solution that should entrench Kelvin as one of the safest suburbs in Sandton. “We are looking forward to 24/7 live monitoring of our public spaces so our residents, guests and passers-by are safe and secure.”
Pillay thanked the board for taking up the cudgels and the community for their energy during his own trials this year.
He said having undergone a bi-lateral lung transplant, their support of his family and their prayers pulled him through the toughest challenge of his life. “For this, I am breathlessly grateful.”
Pillay ended, “Make 2019 the year that takes your breath away.”
