Ward 103 councillor, Vincent Earp reflects on the year that has passed.
Earp said as we move into the festive season he would like to thank all the residents who have corresponded with him, supported him and have helped make meaningful changes in the ward. “Every small contribution by residents can make a big difference and I thank those residents that have adopted A Re Sebetseng on a monthly basis.”
He added that this mayoral initiative can make a huge difference in keeping our areas clean and tidy.
“I would also like to thank those residents who sit on my ward committee who report and deal with issues in their respective communities.”
According to Earp, some of the highlights in the ward include the resurfacing of several roads, although many more still need attention. “The turnaround time for street light repairs has improved and the Pikitup garden site renovation/ refurbishment is nearing completion.”
He said the site should reopen for business on 15 December and will provide a welcome relief for residents who have had to travel to neighbouring sites.
The next serious project for the ward is Ballyclare Drive which will be widened in the near future. “JRA will also be widening the section of South Road between the Morningview Shopping Centre and Rivonia Road.”
A big issue in the ward is illegal dumping and it has been widespread this year and it continues unabated. He said that signage does not resolve the problem and there is a need for a new dump site in the Northern suburbs of Johannesburg. “We have requested more street lights for some streets in Morningside and hope these will be installed in the near future.”
He also thanked the communities that have adopted parts of public open space and riverine areas. “These small contributions make significant differences for the community.”
Earp ended, “I wish my residents a wonderful and restful festive season. Spending quality time with family and friends and recharging the batteries is important.”
